⚓ Horizons Maritimes | "Là où tout a commencé" 

Il y a des photos que l'on garde pour leur beauté.

Et il y a celles que l'on garde parce qu'elles ont changé quelque chose en nous.

Celle-ci appartient à la seconde catégorie.

Cette photo n'est probablement pas la plus impressionnante que j'aie prise.

Pas de trois-mâts majestueux, pas de tempête, pas de coucher de soleil spectaculaire. Juste une petite embarcation croisée au retour de Fécamp Grand'Escale 2024.

Pourtant, elle compte énormément pour moi.

Ce jour-là, j'avais offert à ma famille une sortie à bord de L'Iris.     

Depuis tout petit, la mer me fascine. Les bateaux m'ont toujours fait voyager, et la photographie est devenue, avec les années, une seconde passion.

Au retour vers le port, nous avons croisé ce marin et son passager, appareil photo à la main. Je les ai photographiés presque sans réfléchir.

Puis, quelques jours plus tard, en revoyant cette image, quelque chose est devenu évident.

Je ne voulais pas seulement photographier de beaux navires.

Je voulais raconter le monde maritime.

Ses bateaux, bien sûr. Mais aussi ses marins, ses passionnés, ses ports, ses rencontres, ses détails, son patrimoine... tout ce qui fait vivre la mer.

C'est sur ce bateau que j'ai compris que mes deux passions n'en formaient finalement qu'une seule.

Depuis, chaque photo est une nouvelle histoire à raconter.

⚓ Maritime Horizons | "Where it all began" 

There are photos we keep for their beauty.

And there are those we keep because they’ve changed something within us.

This one falls into the second category.

This photo is probably not the most impressive one I’ve ever taken.

No majestic three-masted ship, no storm, no spectacular sunset. Just a small boat we came across on our way back from Fécamp Grand’Escale 2024.

Yet it means the world to me.

That day, I’d treated my family to a trip aboard L’Iris.     

Ever since I was a little boy, the sea has fascinated me. Boats have always taken me on journeys, and over the years, photography has become a second passion.

On our way back to the harbour, we came across this sailor and his passenger, camera in hand. I photographed them almost without thinking.

Then, a few days later, looking at this image again, something became clear.

I didn’t just want to photograph beautiful ships.

I wanted to tell the story of the maritime world.

Its boats, of course. But also its sailors, its enthusiasts, its harbours, its encounters, its details, its heritage… everything that brings the sea to life.

It was on that boat that I realised my two passions were, in the end, one and the same.

Since then, every photograph has been a new story to tell.
