Érigée en 1417, la Tour de l'Arcade est l'une des tours de l'enceinte fortifiée du Mont-Saint-Michel.

Elle possède une particularité remarquable : elle est la seule à avoir conservé son ancienne charpente et sa couverture en ardoise.

On distingue également une petite ouverture aménagée dans la tour, destinée à participer à la défense de l'enceinte, notamment par le déversement de projectiles sur d'éventuels assaillants.

Un détail discret, mais qui rappelle qu'avant d'être un monument touristique, le Mont-Saint-Michel était aussi une véritable forteresse. 🏰

Built in 1417, the Arcade Tower is one of the towers forming part of Mont-Saint-Michel’s fortified walls.

It has one remarkable feature: it is the only one to have retained its original timber framework and slate roofing.

There is also a small opening in the tower, designed to aid in the defence of the walls, notably by allowing projectiles to be hurled at potential attackers.
